Kubota Water and Environment U.S.A. (KWU) will launch a U.S. pilot program beginning in August 2026 to demonstrate a new approach to decentralized water infrastructure for residential developments and communities facing water scarcity and water quality challenges.

Working in collaboration with AirJoule LLC, a developer of atmospheric water generation technology, KWU will pilot water-from-air systems in California and Texas to evaluate their ability to generate potable water directly from moisture in the atmosphere. The pilot program is part of Kubota's broader effort to develop innovative solutions that strengthen water security and expand sustainable water supplies for growing communities.

Addressing Water Supply Challenges:

Population growth, prolonged drought, groundwater depletion, and aging infrastructure continue to place increasing pressure on water resources across many regions of the United States. At the same time, traditional centralized water infrastructure often requires significant capital investment and lengthy implementation timelines. As communities seek resilient and sustainable solutions, decentralized water systems are gaining attention as an alternative approach to water generation, treatment, reuse, and distribution. By incorporating atmospheric water generation technology, KWU is exploring new ways to help communities diversify their water supply portfolio and improve long-term water security. AirJoule's innovative technology captures moisture from the atmosphere and converts it into drinking water, creating a potential new water source for regions where reliable water supplies are increasingly limited.

Pilot Program Objectives:

• Through this pilot program, KWU will evaluate:
• Water production performance under real-world environmental conditions
• Energy consumption and operational efficiency
• Drinking water quality and long-term reliability
• Operations and maintenance requirements
• Regulatory and certification pathways for potable water applications

The pilot will also help establish future service, maintenance, and operational frameworks needed to support broader deployment of the technology in the United States.

Building on Decades of Water Infrastructure Expertise:

KWU brings decades of experience in water and wastewater infrastructure, including membrane bioreactor (MBR) technology, Kubota Onsite Reclamation Systems (KORe), and hazard-resilient ductile iron pipe solutions. As part of this initiative, KWU will lead pilot planning and execution, oversee installation and operations, evaluate system performance, and develop the service and support framework necessary for future commercialization in the U.S. market. By combining atmospheric water generation with proven water treatment, wastewater treatment, and water reuse technologies, KWU is working to advance a more comprehensive and resilient approach to water infrastructure.

Looking to the Future of Water:

This initiative aligns with Kubota's One Water Vision, which seeks to create integrated solutions that connect water generation, treatment, reuse, and distribution into a unified and sustainable water cycle. Looking ahead, Kubota aims to develop decentralized water circulation infrastructure that combines atmospheric water generation with advanced treatment and water reuse technologies. The long-term goal is to provide communities with a reliable, locally managed water solution that helps address increasing water supply challenges while improving infrastructure resilience.  Through this partnership with AirJoule, Kubota Water and Environment U.S.A. is helping shape the next generation of water infrastructure and advancing practical solutions to support sustainable community growth across North America.

Kubota Membrane USA (KMU) signs agreement with Fulton County, GA to supply 32 Million Gallons per Day Membrane BioReactor System for the Big Creek Water Reclamation Facility
Facility will be one of the largest in North America when it goes online

Bothell, WA: Today, Kubota Membrane USA, Corporation, a member of the Kubota family of companies, which provides membrane bioreactor systems for municipal and industrial clients announced the signing of an agreement to supply the MBR system and related equipment for the 32 MGD Big Creek Water Reclamation Facility owned by Fulton County, GA.
David Clark P.E., the Fulton County Director of Public Works, had this to say about the agreement "Fulton County is excited to incorporate Kubota’s flat plate membrane technology into our largest water reclamation facility expansion project. The Big Creek facility is located in Roswell Georgia, serves approximately 50,000 wastewater customers in North Fulton County, and is centered around one of the fastest growing areas in the Atlanta region. Fulton County has been a strong proponent and user of membrane technology for over 12 years and believes that it the best treatment option in returning the treated effluent back to the river system in a responsible manner for use by our downstream water neighbors. Kubota’s recent advancements in flat plate technology will allow for easier maintenance of the system while allowing it to perform at its peak levels."
KMU was selected to supply the MBR system after a rigorous evaluation process, involving 3 other manufacturers, which looked at multiple factors such as life cycle costs, ease of operation and maintenance and warranty support. Ultimate build out capacity for the facility is 38 MGD with a peak day flow of 76 MGD. The project, which marks KMU’s second plant in North America of 30 MGD or larger, is scheduled to be completed in 2024 and again demonstrates KMU’s ability to deliver on large MBR projects around the world.
About Kubota Membrane USA, Corp.: Kubota Membrane USA, Corp. is a Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) system supplier located in Bothell, WA. KMU has been active in the U.S MBR market since the first MBR plant was commissioned in 2002 (Bandon Dunes, OR). Our accumulated expertise and proven track record of more than 6,500 commercial MBR plants worldwide (more than any other membrane manufacturer) allows KMU to fully support our clients in delivering sustainable and cost-effective solutions that satisfy all market requirements in municipal, industrial and domestic wastewater treatment.
